Is hypnosis real and if so what is it?
If I were to say the word "Hypnosis" I am sure a perception immediately springs to mind. Perhaps it is the stage hypnotist, making people do ridiculous things, or perhaps the creepy guy with the little beard controlling people to do his evil will. Perhaps you think hypnosis is hocus pocus and you do not believe in it. You may even perceive it as something occult, associated with demons and the dead.
Hypnosis is one of those words belonging to that collection of words which are so loaded with meaning that you cannot say them without getting one or the other extreme reaction. It is unfortunate that the connotations that a word carries can obscure a very relaxing technique that has been proven quite effective for a whole range of complaints.
If, for a moment, we remove the word hypnosis from the equation and just look at the technique that is used to induce so-called "trance", we will find the most natural way of doing things that can be used to our benefit.
Just imagine finding a relaxing position sitting or lying down, and you systematically relax your whole body, followed by relaxation of the mind. Then, using selective thinking, you can change or eliminate your negative or problematic perceptions, beliefs, habits, etc., replacing them with positive, healthy and life affirming perceptions, beliefs, habits, etc.
Sounds simple, doesn't it? And what if that was the secret to the whole thing, how simple the process actually is. How easy change can be brought about. Just by focusing on and changing the problematic thinking patterns.
Some of this you can most probably do on your own, and have done so many times during your life. Sometimes one needs a guide through the maze of the subconscious in order to make that change.
Is there anything to be scared of during the hypnotic process? Well, as long as you go to a reputable and respected hypnosis facilitator you should be fine.
The truth of the matter is that you have the potential to make positive change in your life happen. And using this tool called hypnosis you can most probably make these changes in a relative short space of time, within reason of course.
You can overcome your fears and phobias. You can have better memory and learning. You can improve the relationships around you and make new ones, find love. You can stop smoking and you can reduce the weight. You can do all these things and so much more, as long as you set your mind to it.
